Breast Reconstruction Awareness BRA Nights: Empowering Women Through Information & Connection
At Treasure Chest Charity, we believe that informed decisions lead to empowered outcomes. That’s why we proudly fund Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Meetings at the Royal Women's Hospital.
A Program Making Real Impact
The BRA Program is one of the most impactful initiatives supported by Treasure Chest, reaching more than 250 patients each year. Uniquely operating in Melbourne at The Royal Women’s Hospital, it provides a vital space for women navigating a recent breast cancer diagnosis and considering breast reconstruction surgery.
These meetings are built on a simple but powerful idea: information is power. For women facing complex and deeply personal decisions, access to real-life experiences can be invaluable.
What Happens at a BRA Meeting?
BRA Meetings create a safe, supportive environment where women can connect directly with others who have already undergone breast reconstruction. Each session typically brings together 5–7 volunteer speakers alongside 10–20 attendees who are exploring their options.
Participants are also welcome to bring one female support person, recognising the importance of shared understanding and emotional support during this journey.
Peer Support That Truly Matters
What makes these sessions so powerful is the opportunity for genuine, peer-to-peer connection. The volunteer speakers have lived the experience themselves. They offer honest insights, practical perspectives, and reassurance that can’t always be found in clinical settings alone.
These conversations go beyond medical information — helping women ask better questions, feel more prepared, and gain confidence in whatever path they choose.
Supporting Confidence, Choice and Connection
Treasure Chest Charity is proud to fund these informative sessions, ensuring women have access to a space where they can share experiences, feel supported, and build confidence when exploring their options.
Programs like BRA don’t just inform — they empower.
Ongoing participation and donations play a crucial role in sustaining this program and supporting its potential expansion into other hospitals in the future, so even more women can access this level of care, connection, and understanding.
